Music

The first two to three weeks in Artistic Performance is all about vocal techniques. Just like an athlete must exercise, follow strategic games plans, and understand the value of their techniques to be successful.  In choral, a vocalist must understand proper breathing, how to open wide inside and outside of their mouth, and where to position their tongue. Beautiful music just doesn’t happen, it takes practice. Our voice is an instrument that must always be fine-tuning. It is not uncommon for the students to leave my class saying they felt like they just had a work out!

Magazine Sales

Our annual Magazine sales drive kicked off on Friday, September 2. This is our one major fundraiser throughout the school year. The remaining portion toward individual grades/classrooms. However, participation is optional. Drop-off/Pick-up

As we enter the second month of school, we want to remind you of a few procedures for drop-off and pick-up. As you may have noticed, all parking spaces have been numbered. Each driving student and faculty member are assigned a numbered space. We ask that no one park in numbered spaces at any time throughout the day. These are reserved for students/faculty and can cause those folks to be late if their space is taken. There are a few visitors spaces saved on the end of the front row and on the row near handicap parking. We do encourage parents to simply drop off in the mornings and not walk in with their students. Only PreK students have to be walked-in to their classrooms. All other students should now be entering the building on their own. During drop-off and pick-up we ask that parents not exit the car in order to keep the traffic flow moving. All students should be ready to exit the vehicle upon arrival at campus. If you have questions or concerns please contact your Head of School.

Biology

We have had a great first 2 weeks of school and all students are working hard. This week in Honors Biology we have been studying the 8 Characteristics that all organisms must possess to be considered living.  During our enhanced days, students have each chosen an animal that is native to the state of Tennessee to research and identify living characteristics. On Wednesday, all students participated in an Earthworm lab. Students observed the behaviors of the earthworm when exposed to different stimuli. In AP Biology, students designed their own experiment to test the effects of a change in the environment on an organism, they also used the earthworms as the test subject. Dual Enrollment Animal Science is off and running. This weeks students have studied food-borne illnesses. They have research how bacteria is spread and participated in a virtual lab investigation of a outbreak.

Art News

Welcome back Cougars! I had a wonderful summer and I hope you and your family did too! As we start this new school year, I just wanted to remind you of a few things that are very important to our lower school Art program:

  1. Even though we wear aprons in the art room, messes and stains still occur often, even for me! When your child has art as an Enrichment, be thoughtful about what they wear on those days.
  2. I usually, but not always, keep projects we create during the school year so that we can display them in the hallway, use them for Grandparents Day and other display/ classroom purposes. You will see most projects coming home near the end of the school year.
  3. As always, we are looking for donations! Wipes , Germx, and Kleenex are always needed in the art room.

Thank you for always supporting the Art program at CA and remember to ask your children what they are learning and doing in the art room! Feel free to email me with any questions or concerns at jbaldwin@clarksvilleacademy.com
