To reinforce our learning in a creative manner, students made their own “found poetry.” Using a course text as the original source, students used Google drawing and Google docs to make their own poem about hope.

The students will travel to APSU via CA bus and learn rhythmic activities such as locomotor pathway movement, gymnastics, and tumbling. These activities will improve motor learning and development and help them both inside and outside of the classroom. This active learning will be fun and educational. At the end of the semester, students will perform for parents demonstrating what they have learned.

Art News

Our first grade students have been studying the Elements of Art since school has started. The Elements of Art are the building blocks to creating all art: Line, Shape, Color, Form, Value, Space and Texture.  While studying the abstract artist, Wassily Kandinsky, we got to see different ways an artist could use lines and shapes. Using Kandinsky as inspiration, we created an abstract painting using watercolor paints for the background. Then to make our lines and shapes we stamped many different objects in black tempera paint. These paintings were incredibly successful, creative and you can find examples hanging in the main hallway (outside of the library)

Science

Bonnie Plant Farm sponsors a contest each year for Third graders.  They supply local schools cabbage plants, in late March, for each student to grow at home.  All our third graders took home cabbage plants.

Joe Wall photographed his cabbage plant that he named “BOB”.  Joe documented BOB’s growth for 11weeks, from March 27, 2016 – Harvest. Joe made chart entries on watering, weeding, fertilizing, and checking for bugs. BOB even spent a day at the Beach with the Wall Family.  Of course, after a long day at the Beach…the family was hungry.  BOB tasted great!

Joe Wall and Bob have entered a Nationwide Contest by the Bonnie Plant Cabbage Program.  Good Luck Joe (and BOB).

Magazine Sales

Our annual Magazine sales drive kicked off on Friday, September 2. This is our one major fundraiser throughout the school year. Magazine sales were chosen because we feel this promotes reading and is something most people use. We encourage every family to participate as $15, 500 of the money raised goes toward our overall school budget and helps to offset tuition costs. The remaining portion toward individual grades/classrooms. However, participation is optional. Throughout the sale there will be three different turn in dates and prizes will be awarded to students reaching certain goals. This is a fun time for our students and we hope you will join us. If you have questions regarding the magazine sale, feel free to contact, Sally Allen (sallen@clarksvilleacadedmy.com) or Kari Turner (kturner@clarksvilleacademy.com) . Box Tops

This is a reminder that CA collects Box Tops through our CAA. The money raised from this project funds various school improvement projects. Last year we raised over $2000 through the Box Tops program alone! Please turn yours into your child’s teacher or Ms. Turnage in the front office.

Anatomy

Every week dual anatomy students will take the Peay Pick Up trolley to the Sundquist building for Biology 2011 labs.  This week we observed passive transport across a nonliving membrane using dialysis tubing and silver nitrate and iodine indicators.  We also identified mitotic stages and simulated osmosis and diffusion using PhysioEx.

Player of the Week

Garrett Bauer was named Player of the Week after the game Wayne County Friday night. He had 4 receptions for 95 yards, 1 touch down and on defense he had 7 tackles and 1 caused fumble. Garrett and the rest of the Cougars played a great game, but unfortunately came up short. The final score was CA 26 Wayne County 62. The Cougars travel to Montgomery Central this Friday and we would love to have everyone there!
