FUSE

The FUSE program began its first week of coding class using their iPads and the Swift Playground programming language. The students are very excited about the class and Mrs. Bell and Mrs. Miller have prepared a semester full of fun and challenging activities for these 4th and 5th graders.

Kindergarten

Kindergarten students focused this week on books written by well known children’s book author Jan Brett.  We compared the illustrations and the predictable clues throughout her stories.  Our main book was titled The Mitten.  We were able to enjoy hearing the story read aloud by the author herself via YouTube.  This was really cool to hear how her voice sounded as she narrated the story.  The students colored and sequenced the animals in the story to help retell The Mitten.  They also learned about characters, setting, and naming the problem in the story.  Each student was paired with another to retell and act out the story using their animals and white mitten.  They are excited to be able to retell the story to their families.

Clarksville Academy Cheerleader to Perform in the London New Year’s Day Parade for the 30th Year

McKayla England from Clarksville Academy in Clarksville, Tennessee is one of more than 650 high school cheerleaders and dancers from across the U.S. who will be representing Varsity Spirit in the world famous London New Year’s Day Parade.

The individuals invited to perform in the parade qualified for the trip after being nominated as an All-American at one of the summer camps hosted by Varsity Spirit.

All-Americans are selected to try out based on superior cheerleading, dancing and leadership skills at camps across the country. Only the top 10% of the more than 325,000 cheerleaders and dancers who attend the 5,000 Varsity summer camp sessions earn the chance to march in the holiday spectacular.

mckayla-englandMcKayla will be among parade performers from all over the world. The theme of this year’s parade is “Lights, Camera, Action” and will pay homage to the wonders of film and television. Cheerleaders, dancers, marching bands, acrobats and more will make up the 10,000 performers representing 20 countries worldwide in the 2017 parade. Established as one of London’s biggest events, the parade is seen by nearly 300 million people around the world. In addition to cheering in the parade, All-Americans will be able to celebrate the holiday’s European style with the chance to tour some of London’s most historic sites during their seven-day stay.

“This is the 30th year we’ve been able to bring these talented cheerleaders and dancers to London, where they can showcase their skills to a very enthusiastic international audience, and explore the rich cultural heritage of this great city,” says Mike Fultz, the International Event Coordinator for Varsity Spirit.

Leading the Way: CA Excels in Apple Teacher Challenge

Here at Clarksville Academy, we take pride in achieving excellence across the board. The gold standard not only applies to teaching and character, but to technology as well! We are proud to announce that CA is one out of 8 schools in the United States and the only school in Tennessee that has met the challenge in which 75% of the teachers are recognized as an Apple Teacher.

As an Apple Distinguished School, CA has been participating in the Apple Teacher Challenge.

In order to participate, Clarksville Academy teachers have met the following criteria:

  • Our school is currently recognized as an Apple Distinguished School or Apple Distinguished Program.
  • 100 percent of CA teachers have enrolled and earned at least one badge in the Apple Teacher program.
  • Of those enrolled, 100 percent CA teachers have become recognized as Apple Teachers.

We are so thankful for our hard working teaching teams who really go above and beyond for CA students. Congratulations on this accomplishment and thank you for all you do!

2nd Grade

Second graders took a brisk walk to Smith-Trahern Mansion to see the Christmas trees on display.  They also learned some of the history of the house and of Clarksville.  Who knew Women’s First Bank, in Clarksville, was the first in the United States that women were allowed to use.  The trees were beautiful!

On Tuesday, December 6th, the second grade classes at Clarksville Academy visited a storybook cottage in historic Franklin, Tennessee. Mrs. Christie Jones Ray invited the children into her home and studio to show them how she creates her whimsical stories and illustrations. Mrs. Ray inspired the children by talking with about how to use their imagination and gifts to create something wonderful. All the second graders received a special gift from this author and illustrator. They took home all the materials they would need to create a pomander with their families. Each child also took home a copy of her first book, Eliza Visits Martha’s Vineyard.  It was a magical field trip.
