Thank you…

On the evening of Friday, December 18, members of the Procter family, friends, and Cougar fans joined together for a spaghetti dinner, a night of basketball, and remembrance of a Clarksville Academy elite athlete from 1974, Mr. Greg Procter.  CA’s annual 44’s Night at Procter Court raised over $6,500 to add to the existing total to the Greg Procter Endowment, giving this endowment a total of $21,000.  This event was a huge success and truly special to the Procter family and Clarksville Academy.  We thank everyone who joined us on the 18th and everyone who contributed to this endowment.  The Greg Procter Endowment will assist many students in their educational journey and we look forward to 44’s Night at Procter Court each year.  If you would like to make a contribution to the Greg Procter Endowment, please visit Marketplace at www.clarksvilleacademy.com.

B-cycle is coming to Clarksville

Clarksville, TN…Thanks to a group of Clarksville Academy students, a grant from the Clarksville-Montgomery County Community Health Foundation and a partnership with the city of Clarksville, a bicycle share program will soon come to Liberty and McGregor parks.

The group, comprised of about eight Clarksville Academy students each year, began the project by researching a number of companies over the course of a year. They ultimately chose B-cycle, and then wrote a grant proposal. After receiving a grant from the Community Health Foundation, students then began work with the city to identify locations for the bike stations. Once the program is in place, they’ll continue to monitor how often the bikes are used and study how they are making a difference.

Each station, both located along the Cumberland River, will hold 10 bikes. Bicycles rented from one station can be returned to the other station. Clarksville B-cycle riders must purchase an access pass for $3 that allows riders access to the bike for 24 hours. The first hour is free but then riders must pay $1 for each additional 30 minutes that a bike is out. Individuals can purchase daily passes or memberships, including weekly, monthly, and one-year options.

A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 15 at Liberty Park.

Kindergarten

This year the Kindergarten Classes are having fun learning to play hand bells. The Kristal Bell Method has allowed the students to play music chords using a color coded system. What an amazing way to instill the love of music in our students!
You can see the confidence grow as they learn to watch for their color and when to start and stop. Their hard work has paid off and they will be performing in the Lower School Christmas Production an arrangement of Jingle Bells.

Third Grade

Third graders have been studying food chains, food webs, ecosystems and plant/animal relationships. Students worked in cooperative groups in a game of survival. Students/teams were assigned a predator and had to work in teams to find specific prey (with a certain amount in mind to survive). They had to be stealthy, hunt and capture their prey. After capturing their prey, teams recorded all of their prey, location of prey and how many of each animal was captured. Students collaborated and recorded their findings on a predator data collection log.
