Clarksville Academy - Promoting Academic Excellence, Moral Integrity, Physical Growth, and Civic Responsibility

Upper School News: March 27 – March 31, 2017

Key Club

During the weekend of March 17th – 19th, eighteen Clarksville Academy Key Club officers and club members attended the 2017 K-T District Convention in Gatlinburg, TN.  The club members were accompanied by faculty advisors Lisa Little and Jennifer Moore. Events attended at the Convention included governmental caucus sessions, leadership workshops, and social mixers. On Saturday, over 500 key clubbers from the states of Tennessee and Kentucky worked together to make super hero caps that would be distributed to children that are currently hospitalized in a local healthcare facility. Club members came back with new ideas for community service and prepared to lead our club into an exciting new year. We are very proud of our club members for earning over 4,000 service hours this year.

During the awards program on Saturday evening, Clarksville Academy received the following awards;

Outstanding Service, Gold Level fundraiser for the Ronald McDonald House

Outstanding Contribution, Dues on a Time Award

K-T Division, Second Place, Overall Achievement, Gold Section

K-T Division, Third Place Ronald McDonald House Club Fundraising

Club Poster Contest, non-digital, second place, poster created by Tabitha Lee, Jenny Li, and Christy Zheng

Mock Crash

This Wednesday, the Transportation CBL group in conjunction with the Clarksville Police will be staging a mock crash at the Sports Complex. Actors from our CBL group will be in the “crash”. Emergency vehicles, including a LifeFlight helicopter, will come to the scene as if it’s a real crash. All sophomore, junior, and senior students will be in attendance.

Interact Club

CA Interact Club sponsored a speech contest last Tuesday, March 21st. The students were to create an original speech, centered around the Four Way Test of Rotary Club International, and was open to all Upper School students in grades 9-12. Rotary Club President, Mrs. Cheryl Lankford, attended the contest as a special guest. First place was awarded to 11th grader Michaela Dowdy, and second place was awarded to 12th grader Elizabeth Mabry. Both ladies did a fantastic job and Michaela will represent CA at the district competition in Dickson, TN on April 15th. Congratulations, ladies!

THEATRE ARTS

Last week, Mrs. Pitt’s Theatre Arts students participated in a costume design lab. The students were paired up and one person served as the model for the paper mannequin, while the other person drew their outline. Once they were assigned a time period, the work began. They researched and created costumes from the periods and even named them! This was a great way for the class to tie together the concepts and ideas that were presented earlier in the unit of study.

Meet the Coach

On Wednesday, March 28 we invite everyone to attend the Varsity Baseball game at 5PM and stay for the Meet the Coach Event at the Cougar Sports Complex at 6:30PM. John David Sellers will be on hand to talk with Cougar families! We will have burgers, chips and drinks on hand while supplies last. We hope to see you there!
