Honors Ecology

The past two weeks in Honors Ecology students have been studying the factors involved in determining water quality. Activities have included virtual and actual water testing labs in which students tested local fresh water resources for dissolved oxygen, pH level, and nitrate level. During the enhanced schedule day on Thursday, students build a water filtration system using 2 liter bottles and other supplied materials. The students tested how effective the filter was by pouring local pond water through the system.Clarksville-Academy-News-April-25-16-08

Varsity Baseball

On Friday night the Varsity Baseball Team held a “Rally For Rhyan” baseball game.  Rhyan Loos is the six-year-old niece of Nikki and Coach Jake Peterson . She is battling Neuroblastoma, which is a rare form of pediatric cancer. She was not able to be with us but the game was live streamed via The CUBE and she and her family was able to watch. The love and support of our C.A. baseball family, along with a donation to the family for over 1,000.00 plus a big win over Northeast made for a great night!!

Youth Legislature

From Thursday through Sunday April 14-17, 2016 eight CA students participated in the annual YMCA Youth Legislature conference held in our state capitol in Nashville. These are the students that participated:

Morgan Crowley
Cheyenne Delbert
Josie Foote
Austin Harnage
Owen Johnson
DJ McDonald
Parker Rice
Natalie Yen

This year’s conference was very large, with 850 students from east, west and middle Tennessee. On Thursday students sat in committee meeting until well into the night in which every team’s legislative bill was debated and ranked. The ranking by one’s peers will determine if a bill makes it out of committee and then debated and voted on by either Friday through Sunday delegates are in their component, which means either red or blue house or red or blue senate. Blue House & Senate are for younger delegates and Red House and Senate are for the more seasoned delegates. The Red Senate legislative team of Owen Johnson & Parker Rice was successful in having their bill successfully passed and then forwarded to the Red House. The Blue House legislative team of Cheyenne Delbert, Morgan Crowley and Natalie Yen had the top ranked bill in their committee and thus it also came up for debate on Friday where it was then passed and forwarded to the Blue Senate. After being approved in the Blue Senate their bill was then forward on to the student governor. The youth governor read and signed the bill into law. This is quite an admirable accomplishment to achieve for anyone, but especially for first year delegates!! Their bill promotes earthquake awareness and readiness via earthquake drills in all schools state wide [similar to fire drills & tornado drills]. Cheyenne Delbert was received an Outstanding Delegate award for her work in the Blue House. Congratulations to Cheyenne for her achievement!

Photos

Many of you take photos at various events and activities around school. We encourage you to share these with our Marketing/PR office as well as our yearbook staff by using the email photos@clarksvilleacademy.com. This email is designed for students and parents to send pictures taken throughout the school year. We encourage you to caption your photo or to write a sentence or two with the event name, students pictured in the photo and the date it was taken. We do not guarantee that every photo will be used, but we look forward to seeing your pictures.

Box Tops & Campbell’s Labels

This is a reminder that CA collects Campbell’s labels and Box Tops through our CAA. The money raised from this project funds various school improvement projects. Last year we raised over $2000 through the Box Tops program alone! Please turn yours into your child’s teacher or Ms. Turnage in the front office.
