CBL Summary: April 22 2016
Our April CBL day found our groups concluding the Implementation Phase of their Solutions, and creating Solution Videos. These Solution Videos represent the 2015-2016 CBL year, and are used in our Solution Day Symposium.
FITNESS
Our Health and Fitness team “Get Strong” represented CA as part of Clarksville’s DAY AT THE PARK. Booths were set up at Liberty Park and participants enjoyed the park, free B-cycle rentals, and visited multiple booths representing different organizations in Clarksville. There was an obstacle course for children, food vendors, and free merchandise. Team “Get Strong” conducted surveys, and distributed information on B-cycles.
LITERACY
Literacy (Christmas/Baron) concluded their work on a presentation for the Adult Literacy Council. This will be distributed by ALC and Executive Director Velma Jo Williams, promoting the free services of the ALC. The team Lire et Ecrire has designed flyers to be included in packets distributed at Tenova Healthcare, to all expecting mothers, detailing children’s literacy programs in our community.
SHELTER AND PROVISIONS
The Shelter and Provisions group concluded their Solution in March, working with Firehouse Day Shelter to provide a Children’s Playroom on site. They collected donations supplying the playroom with toys, books, games, etc. They spent part of their April day writing/sending thank you notes for the generous donations they had received.
FOOD SECURITY
Our Food Security Group, under the direction of Coach Burkhart and Coach Williams, visited Manna Cafe. As they investigated Food Security this year they have volunteered more than 400 hours to local food distribution centers and supplied multiple food baskets to Loaves and Fishes.
BEAUTIFICATION
Mr. Neitzke’s Beautification group visited Summit Heights. They have ENGAGED with this facility and assisted by mentoring students in an after-school program designed to use Art as a method of self expression. His students visited the center on Monday’s and Wednesday’s during Feb. and Mar. engaging with a variety of children. They coordinated entries in a nation wide Art contest as part of the 2016 Housing America campaign for children associated with affordable housing and community development programs.
MENTAL HEALTH AND DRUG AWARENESS
Our Mental Health and Drug Awareness group (Stonesifer) has ENGAGED this year with Bethany House II. A “House of Restoration” for women located in Clarksville. The teams assisted Bethany House on our April 22 CBL day by planting a vegetable garden.
YOUTH
Coach Bragg and Coach Hood’s group working with Youth, hosted a Panera Bread Spirit Event for April. Panera’s mission – A loaf of Bread in Every Arm. The Hood/Bragg Teams For the Children and Wishmakers have used funds from a variety of sources to assist youth in the Clarksville Community to prevent childhood hunger.
FOOD PRODUCTION
Mr. Boyd’s group, Food Production, celebrated Earth Day with a Dedication for Clarksville’s Brandon Hill Heritage Youth Garden. They have ENGAGED with many other organizations and more than 200 volunteers at the garden site. Speakers at the dedication included County Mayor Jim Durrett, United Way CEO Ginna Holleman, City Mayor Kim McMillan, Food Initiative representative Michael Hampton, and Montgomery County Extension Agent Karla Kean.
RECREATION
Our Recreation team Pura Vida (Magrans), conducted investigations on statistics regarding health in Montgomery County, as part of a grant submission to install a Disc Golf Course in Clarksville.
PERFORMING ARTS
Our Performing Arts (Pitt/Hollis) group hosted the 3rd Annual Talent Show in April. Funds raised will assist with multiple scholarships for the Performing Arts, and donations to the Roxy Regional Theater. Members performed at Dogwood Bend Residential Home. The Team Roxy Rockers concluded their work at the Roxy Regional Theater.
