Intermediate School
Beginning with Grade 6, students are introduced to a departmentalized structure though they generally interact academically with only their own grade level while in the Intermediate School. This gives the students exposure to several different teachers while still allowing the necessary time to mature.
The core curriculum consists of Math, History, English, Science, Physical Education, and one rotation class. The rotation classes change each grading period, allowing a student to experience four of the following: foreign language, technology, health, writing, art, music/choir, study skills, or academic fitness.
The students’ use of technology advances greatly during these years with the introduction of laptops, online history research, and in-class PowerPoint presentations. Homework goes paperless with assignments often being turned in on flash drives or thumb drives. At this point the wireless campus also becomes more prominent with students utilizing print labs as necessary.
Exceptional 8th Grade students may be allowed to enroll in select Upper School courses for enrichment purposes. High achievers may select to study Latin, German, Technology, or Physical Science in lieu of a standard study period.
