Dear CA Families,

 

Summer 2015 has been filled with summer camps, new family visits, campus updates, and endless preparations for the 2015-2016 academic year.  We are happy to welcome all of our Cougars next week and look forward to another successful school year!

I want to take a moment and reflect on our school and students’ accomplishments.  Each year, our competitive student body and faculty/staff surpasses previous achievements, sets new goals, and new campus highlights are achieved.  In 2015, our graduating class of only 37 reached $4.7 million in scholarship dollars.  This is remarkable!  Our students also receive 100% college acceptance.  With the academic rigor and the related experiences our students are receiving, the possibilities are endless.

Boo Hoo Breakfast

All Parents of Pre-Kindergarten & Kindergarten students are invited to join us Thursday, August 13, at 8:00 A.M. in the Dorothy Martin Library for the Annual Boo Hoo Breakfast, sponsored by the Clarksville Academy Association (Parent Association).  Join us for a time of breakfast, laughter, and tears as we commemorate this special and exciting time in our students’ lives.

Back to School Bash

The Annual Back to School Bash will be held at Clarksville Academy on Thursday, August 13, from 5:30 P.M. – 7:00 P.M.  We encourage all families to come out for food, beverages, and games, and help us celebrate a new school year.  We will be introducing our fall sports teams during this event.  

 

Morning Drop off and Afternoon Pick up

Detailed information and instructions will be given at orientations. 

 

Lunch

At this time, lunch forms are available on our website for August 13 and 14, as well as the following week, August 17 – 21.  Preorders must be submitted by Friday, August 7.

PowerSchool Updates:

Directory Information: The 2015-2016 School Directory will be compiled from PowerSchool. Please view your child’s information in PowerSchool and make any updates or corrections, if needed, no later than Thursday, August 13^th. You may find the link to PowerSchool by visiting www.clarksvilleacademy.com. PowerSchool will be located under the Quick Links section. If you have not received log in information for your child’s PowerSchool account, please contact the office at 931-647-6311 or email Kari Turner at kturner@clarksvilleacademy.com, Sheila Ragsdale at sragsdale@clarksvilleacademy.com, or Jessica Peacher Williams at jpeacher@clarksvilleacademy.com.

 

PowerSchool Emergency Form Update: PowerSchool is the CA student database system. This system stores all emergency contact information for each student.  Every student will need an updated Emergency form for the 2015-16 school year. You may access this form by selecting the Demographic/Emergency tab.  Make sure to digitally sign the parent release section at the bottom of that page.  Tennessee State Law states that students should have all emergency contact information submitted by the first day of school.  If you child does not have this on file by the first day of school, you will be notified and asked to come in for completion.  If you need any assistance, please do not hesitate to contact the front office at 931-647-6311.  If your child is a first year cougar and you have not received a PowerSchool Login and Password, please contact the front office.  We can provide you with this information.

Fees and Training

Technology fees are due by July 13, 2015.

iPad pick-up (6th graders, new Intermediate School students)
When: June 8- 11, 2015, 8:00 A.M.-12:00 P.M.
What to bring: $40 insurance premium

MacBook iLearn Orientation (9th graders, new Upper School students)
When: July 21, 2015, 5:30-6:30 P.M. for students with the last name beginning with A-M.
6:30-7:30 P.M. for students with the last name beginning with N-Z.
What to bring: $40 insurance premium
Each Freshman and any new Upper School students will need to attend the iLearn Orientation. This orientation will give the students valuable information and training regarding the MacBook and equipment, email account, calendars, etc.
A guardian will need to be in attendance with each student.

iPad Turn-In

Students in grades 3-5 will begin iPad turn-in this week. Please make sure each student has their charger, bag and iPad ready for turn-in. Students should also remove any photos or personal information from their iPad prior to turning in.

This is a reminder that CA collects Campbell’s labels and Box Tops through our CAA. The money raised from this project funds various school improvement projects. Last year we raised over $2000 through the Box Tops program alone! Please turn yours into your child’s teacher or Ms. Turnage in the front office.

Duke Tip Scholars

On May 11th, Anna Sawyer and Akanee Angel participated in the 7th Grade Duke Tip Talent Search Program Recognition Ceremony at Belmont University. The Duke Tip Program ceremony was for students who took the ACT in the past year and scored a 20 composite score or a 21 in at least one of the subjects. In Tennessee, 3,628 students participated and, these young ladies are 2 of the 1,957 students who qualified for the award.

Tennis Regional Finalists

Seniors Rebekah Lynn and Anne Marie Darke advanced to the 5A-AA regional tennis doubles championship. It was a hard fought 3 set match played against Lipscomb Academy.

Ford Drive One for Your School

Thank you to everyone who came out for the Ford Drive One event! Thanks to your support we raised over $2,200! Way to go CA!

Teacher Appreciation

A big thank you to all those parents who donated, are preparing desserts, or have signed up to help with Teacher Appreciation week! We are truly thankful for both our teachers and our parents!

Graduation

Graduation will be held on May 22, 2015 on Procter Court at 6PM. We invite all families and friends to join us for this special event.

Cougar Card News

All money on Cougar Cards will rollover to next school year.

Intermediate & Upper School students…please turn in your Cougar Cards to Mrs. Truitt after their last use on Monday May 18th.

Cougar Cafe sub line will not be open, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Students may order hot lunch or ala carte (pizza, fries, etc.).

There will be no breakfast served or special snack made Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

Final Exams

Final exams for 6th-12th will be this week. Below is the schedule for final exams. Questions regarding the schedule should be addressed to your Head of School.

iCougar App

We encourage everyone with an apple device to download the iCougar app today. This is a great way to stay updated with all the latest in school closings, emergency notifications, etc. If you already have the app, please make sure to go to the app store and update it! A new update was released in January. We are currently investigating the Android market and hope to have it available there soon.

Attendance

Please contact Kristi Truitt at ktruitt@clarksvilleacademy.com when your child is going to be out of school. This helps us to keep our attendance records up to date. If you know your child will be late due to an appointment please let us know that as well. Thank you.

Photos

If you take photos at any of our sporting events or campus events and would like to share your shots, please send them to Sally Allen at sallen@clarksvilleacademy.com. These can be used on our website, Facebook page, athletics site or even the yearbook. We ask that you send photos promptly following the activity. Thank you!

Cougar Bucks may be added to your Cougar Card any time day or night! We encourage everyone to take advantage of this easy way to pay for lunch, break, or even the Cougar Store! FCA

Please join Intermediate School Fellowship of Christian Athletes each Wednesday morning in Mrs. Hinson’s room 128 at 7:15 a.m. Our officers this year are Carson Caudill and Madison Hawkins-Presidents, Charlton Kelly-Vice President, Bailey Coleman-Communication Coordinator, and Addy Means-Recruiter. Everyone is welcome!

Please join the Upper School Fellowship of Christian Athletes each Wednesday morning at 7:15 in Coach Chuck Holt’s room (under the gym). We invite everyone to attend!

Expanding the Experience

Clarksville Academy is still very excited about our expansion plans! As you can see a new expansion which opened Feb 2015 is adjacent to the main building. This expansion is really booming on the north end of our campus and we are thrilled with the process! In this expanded part of the main building we have the opportunity for a few more classrooms to be named. We have had a few families reserve naming rights on some of the classrooms, but still have a couple left. If you are interested in honoring or memorializing someone in this way, please contact Sally Allen at sallen@clarksvilleacademy.com or 647-6311. These won’t last long.

Our hope is to have the new building shown below completed by 2020. We need your help do this! Contact Sally Allen at sallen@clarksvilleacademy.com to find out what you can do to help us reach our goal.

Please remember to Pre-Order Lunch each week. This is very important even when you are on the annual or bi-annual lunch plan. Clarksville Academy now offers a Cougar Bucks Account option to better assist children with their lunch needs! This convenient option gives families the opportunity to deposit money into an account and this money can be withdrawn for miscellaneous items that are available at the express window or the hot lunch window. Payments can now be made via the new online marketplace!

Field Day

Lower School Field Day will take place on Thursday, May 14. Students should arrive at the Cougar Sports Complex by 8AM and follow the signs for drop-off. Students will participate in a variety of fun-filled activities and organized team games throughout the day. If you pre-ordered a school lunch this will be served at the field. If you did not, please bring a completely disposable sack lunch. Students may also bring a small bag or cinch sack with a towel for their picnic lunch, extra water bottles labeled with their name and a hat or sunglasses. Students are responsible for keeping up with their items at all times. Students will be escorted back to main campus for a traditional pick-up. Please remember to apply sunscreen prior to reporting to the complex. We look forward to a wonderful day!

Playground Updates

The old playground equipment has been removed from the North Second playground and the groundwork prep has been completed. Progress on our new sand volleyball court is moving quickly. Coach Peterson and Coach Wallace have ordered the equipment and net supports so as soon as they arrive we will install. We look forward to having many great challenges and matches in the remaining weeks of this school year and in the years to come.

We will have a sign-up available for parents or student drivers who are over 18. We encourage you to take part in this great event. FUSE Social Studies

4th and 5th grade FUSE students visited The Hermitage this week. They had a great time learning more about our 7th president, Andrew Jackson. On their trip the students toured The Hermitage museum, mansion, and plantation. They also took part in the hands-on “I Spy the Past” history class!

8th Grade Science

8th grade students explored the electrical circuits by completing tasks designed to challenge the learner. Students experimented with water and salt to determine its effect on currents.

6th Grade Science

6th graders are learning about energy and completed a STEM project creating a solar paneled house.

New Camps added! Summer Camp registration is LIVE online! We are so excited about the wonderful camps being offered this year and can’t wait for you to see them. Billy Frank Smith Sports Banquet

The annual Billy Frank Smith Sports Banquet was a huge success. We are very proud of all our student athletes. Below you will find a list of our student athletes who maintained a 3.5 or better GPA. Congratulations to all our athletes.

Photography Exhibit

Photography 1 will have their last show on display on the main level of the Fine Arts building starting Wednesday, and it will last until May 14th. We will have a closing reception on the 14th from 5-7pm and everyone is invited to attend! This show is made up of cyanotype images the students have made while exploring alternative photographic processes.

Cara Miller Names Apple Distinguished Educator

Congratulations to Cara Miller for being a named an Apple Distinguished Educator. Cara was chosen from thousands of applicants to be a part of the 2015-2016 Class. Approximately 150 educators from public, private and collegiate institutions worldwide were chosen. This is a great honor for Cara and our school!

This is a great way to stay updated with all the latest in school closings, emergency notifications, etc. If you already have the app, please make sure to go to the app store and update it! A new update was released in January. We are currently investigating the Android market and hope to have it available there soon.

Attendance

Please contact Kristi Truitt at ktruitt@clarksvilleacademy.com when your child is going to be out of school. This helps us to keep our attendance records up to date. If you know your child will be late due to an appointment please let us know that as well. Thank you.

Photos

If you take photos at any of our sporting events or campus events and would like to share your shots, please send them to Sally Allen at sallen@clarksvilleacademy.com. These can be used on our website, Facebook page, athletics site or even the yearbook. We ask that you send photos promptly following the activity. Thank you!

Cougar Bucks may be added to your Cougar Card any time day or night! We encourage everyone to take advantage of this easy way to pay for lunch, break, or even the Cougar Store! Payments can be made through our online Marketplace at the below link or by visiting Mrs. Kristi Truitt in the Cougar Café.

Expanding the Experience

Clarksville Academy is still very excited about our expansion plans! As you can see a new expansion which opened Feb 2015 is adjacent to the main building. This expansion is really booming on the north end of our campus and we are thrilled with the process! In this expanded part of the main building we have the opportunity for a few more classrooms to be named. We have had a few families reserve naming rights on some of the classrooms, but still have a couple left. If you are interested in honoring or memorializing someone in this way, please contact Sally Allen at sallen@clarksvilleacademy.com or 647-6311. These won’t last long.

Please remember to Pre-Order Lunch each week. This is very important even when you are on the annual or bi-annual lunch plan. Clarksville Academy now offers a Cougar Bucks Account option to better assist children with their lunch needs! This convenient option gives families the opportunity to deposit money into an account and this money can be withdrawn for miscellaneous items that are available at the express window or the hot lunch window. Payments can now be made via the new online marketplace!

Box Tops & Campbell’s Labels

This is a reminder that CA collects Campbell’s labels and Box Tops through our CAA. The money raised from this project funds various school improvement projects. Last year we raised over $2000 through the Box Tops program alone! Please turn yours into your child’s teacher or Ms. Turnage in the front office.
