AP European History
Dr. Drew was recently a guest lecturer in Mr. Christmas’ AP European History class. Dr. Drew instructed the class on the Impressionist Movement, and the students practiced these concepts in their own Impressionist style painting.
Congratulations
On April 8th, Akanee Angel was awarded as an honoree of the Middle Tennessee State University True Blue 100. This ceremony, being the first of its kind, “recognizes 100 outstanding high school freshmen that share MTSU’s core values and commitments and live up to them each day – all while excelling academically”. Recipients were each called out, awarded a certificate, and met the university president. Pictured below are Akanee and Dr. Sidney McPhee, President of MTSU.
Math Team
The Clarksville Academy Math Team, coached by Coach Dan Burden came in strong at the TMTA State Math Contest, held at Austin Peay State University, April 11, 2017. The Algebra II team consists of sophomores Tabitha Lee, Christy Zheng, Cheyenne Deibert, and Stone Norris. The Geometry team consists of freshman AKanee Angel.
AKanee Angel won the 3rd place medal for Geometry, individual category.
Tabitha Lee won the 5th place medal for Algebra II, individual category.
TMTA (Tennessee Mathematic Teachers Association) State Math Contest is one of the most established, prestigious and competitive Math Contests in the State of Tennessee. This year, around five hundred middle and high school students from the surrounding counties compete at APSU testing center. The students of the Math team worked very hard for the entire year. They spent many hours outside of normal school hours to prepare for the contest, under Coach Dan Burden’s guidance.
We are proud of all the students who competed last week! Wonderful job to these students!
Football Meeting
There will be a Varsity Football meeting on Wednesday, April 19 at 6PM in the Aux gym. This is for anyone interested in Varsity Football next fall.
Spanish
Dancing is a very important part of Latin American cultures. For so many, it is more than just dancing. It is an expression of the spirit by which they live. A perfect harmony between partners that is the result of hard work and dedicated time. Each dance has its own unique style and patterns. This experience was a remarkable blend of cultures and differe
The Spanish students at CA are in the middle of a three week unit where they have learned the basic movements for several dances and now they have been challenged to create and choreograph their own forms of the dances learned. In order for this happen a trip to Nashville was in order. This past Monday students were lead by professional dance instructors from Nashville Ballroom and Company who dedicated a full day to help our students advance their knowledge and skills to the following six dances: Rumba, Cha-Cha, Merengue, Salsa, Tango and Bachata.
It has been quite remarkable to see our students step beyond their comfort zones and fully embed themselves into the beauty of this unit, to put down their reservations and learn through repetition and even failure. To start with fear and end fearless of what felt impossible in the beginning. And finally, to understand the cultural importance of what dancing means to most Latinos and apply it to their own dancing with a strong sense of joy and excitement.
Prom News
Clarksville Academy Prom will be held on Saturday, May 20th at the beautiful James E. Bruce Convention Center in Hopkinsville, KY. Family and friends are invited to attend the Grand March at 6:00pm.
Prom and After Prom tickets will go on sale April 18th. Prom tickets are $35 each, and After Prom tickets are $20 each. All tickets can be purchased through Mrs. Amanda Pitt.
Art
Secrets of Buddhist Art: Tibet, Japan and Korea was the focus of a guided tour of Mr.Neitzke’s afternoon upper art classes to the Frist Center for the Arts on Wednesday April 5th. The highlight of the excursion was learning about and viewing the relatively large [about 4.5 feet diameter] and brightly colored Sand Mandala painting. Four Tibetan monks working nine-hour days over a five-day period after a ceremonial ritual to purify the space created the beautiful and intricate sand painting in the Frist in mid-February. On May 7th this amazing work of art will be destroyed during a closing ceremony of the exhibit. The work will be dismantled to symbolize the impermanence of all that exists. More information this Tibetan sand painting and the closing ceremony is on the fristcenter.org website describing the special event where the sand will be paraded to and put into the Cumberland River in Nashville.

Box Tops
This is a reminder that CA collects Box Tops through our CAA. The money raised from this project funds various school improvement projects. Last year we raised over $2000 through the Box Tops program alone! Please turn yours into your child’s teacher or Ms. Turnage in the front office.
