Varsity Golf
On Friday, the Cougars and the Lady Cougars competed in the regional golf tournament at The Legacy in Springfield. The Lady Cougars began the tournament with a mission, return to the state tournament, and they did just that. Led by Hunter Farrell firing her best round of the season, a 76, the Lady Cougars defeated the competition to accomplish their goal. Mallory Saleh shot an 82 and Michaela Dowdy a 90 to complete the team score of 158. On the boys side, the Cougars put together their absolute best round of the season by shooting a 315 as a team. However, Houston County bested the Cougars with a team score of 312. The highlights of the day had to include Taylor Norris making a vow to break 82 and boy did he. Taylor finished the day shooting an all time best 80 helping with the final score of the Cougars. The other scores on the team were Samuel Nicholson 80, Bryson Batson 82 and Dawson Bagwell 89. Wyatt Samuels came into the tournament with one goal, make the state tournament. Wyatt shot a 1 over par 73, and then had to wait and see if the score would qualify him. After all the scores were in, Wyatt found himself in a familiar position, tied for the last qualifying spot for the to make the state field. Wyatt matched up against Lipscomb Academy’s Paul Swindell for the last spot. On the first hole Paul parred the hole and then Wyatt calmly sank a 3 foot birdie putt for the win.
Wyatt, Mallory, Hunter and Michaela will be competing at the state tournament October 3-5.
Players of the Week
Julie Parks, from Heritage Bank, and Head Football Coach Todd Hood presents Garrett Bragg with the Player of The Week Award based on his outstanding performance in the home game Montgomery Centra High School Friday night, September 9th. Garrett a freshman, had 19 carries for 87 and caught 3 passes for 43 yards. Garrett also had 7 tackles on the defensive side of the ball. The Cougars lost the non- region match up 35 to 17. Coach Hood declared “Garrett had to to step in at running back for us and he played great. Garrett is starting at corner and running back and we are looking for more big nights from this freshman.” He ran hard all night long and presented match-up problems for Central. After a bye week, the Cougars will be at home with week vs. Collinwood at 7pm. It’s homecoming week and the school is excited.
Julie Parks, from Heritage Bank, and Head Football Coach Todd Hood presents Matthew Morris with the Player of The Week Award based on his outstanding performance against McEwen High School this past Friday night, September 16th. Matthew had 11 tackles, 1 forced fumble and 4 tackles for a loss. The Cougars lost the region match up 35 to 0. Coach Hood declared “Matthew had his most explosive game yet this year and we are looking for more big nights from our senior. Its was a tough loss but we must keep working and our younger kids are getting better every game.
Honors Biology
This week in honors biology students are doing a two part lab modeling the patterns of genetic drift and natural selection. Students are analyzing data collected after simulating three generations of selection by a predator and selection by a natural disaster. This key lab starts our unit on the process of evolution.
Fitness– Fitness class doing a little circuit training & core work.
Great Job
Stone Norris presented at the Red River Tales in Adams on Sunday. He did a fantastic job talking about the Red River and how it had a huge impact on the tobacco industry. He did such a great job and we are so proud him!
CBL
Challenge Based Learning kicked off on Friday with many exciting new groups and some groups seeing the end of projects from last year. Mr. Magrans’ group Team Pura Vida is completing the installation of a Disk Golf Course at Rotary Park. On Friday they were able to survey the area and watch the initial installation take place. The students were also presented with a check from the Community Health Foundation for $29,000 to complete this project.
The boot display began today at Fort Campbell. This event runs from September 23rd- October 2nd, from 8am-6pm on the Division Headquarters Lawn. Coach Bragg’s CBL group was able to attend today. They were able to help the soldiers straightened name tags and flags. They were over 7,210 boots on the ground.
