Senior College Application Week
Dear Senior Parents and Seniors,
The Tennessee Higher Education Commission in collaboration with CollegeforTN.org is pleased to announce September 29 – October 3 as Tennessee College App Week. Throughout this week, high schools across the state will host College App Week events to assist students with the college application process. All seniors expected to graduate in May 2015 will be encouraged to complete at least one online application for admission to a higher education institution, if they have not already done so.
The goal of College App Week is to provide the opportunity for all Tennessee seniors to complete and file college applications. We ask parents to talk to their child about where they might want go to college and what they might want to study. Thank you in advance for your support of this exciting initiative to encourage Tennessee students to make college a part of their future.
Football 5th Quarter
The Upper School is sponsoring a 5th Quarter event after Friday night’s game. Students are invited to stay after the game for food, fellowship and fun!
Our Big Idea for this year is CONNECT. Through our Challenge Based Learning year, we will investigate how we can:
CONNECT: Youth (2 groups)
CONNECT: Those in Need (2 groups)
CONNECT: Clarksville Academy
CONNECT: Those Who Serve
CONNECT: The Arts
On our First Day, groups engaged in team building activities that served to solidify our groups, while providing interaction and healthy competition. We began forming Essential Questions, Investigated Resources, Defined Teams/Team Names, and Assigned Roles for Team members. Our questions ranged From how we could CONNECT with Youth, and investigate Youth with debilitating illnesses; how we can assist those who Serve our Country and have made unbelievable sacrifices; how we could, by collaborating together improve parks, and Investigate how pesticides are affecting food sources. We have groups investigating how we can CONNECT with students from other countries, while others are continuing to narrow down how we can CONNECT with students while mentoring. Student groups will CONNECT with those in Need, by assisting with both physical needs and emotional needs.
Our Challenge Based Learning program affords us the ability to change the directional flow of education. CBL inspires our students to be more than just consumers of content. Placing them in charge of their learning; teaching collaboration with other students, teachers, and community leaders empowers them to realize they can make a difference.
We are looking forward to a year where CBL teams CONNECT with each other, CONNECT with others in our community, and CONNECT with our World.
On Saturday, October 18, 2014, from 8:00-11:30 A.M., Clarksville Academy will administer the PSAT to all 10th and 11th graders who wish to participate. This test is scheduled nationally by the College Board and is given on the same dates and times throughout the country. If you and your child decide to sign up for the test, the deadline to sign up and pay fees is Friday, September 19, 2014. The fee for the PSAT is $20.00 and should be paid in the guidance office.
FCA will meet each Wednesday at 7:15 AM in Coach Chuck Holt’s room. We invite everyone to attend!
Box Tops & Campbell’s Labels
This is a reminder that CA collects Campbell’s labels and Box Tops through our CAA. The money raised from this project funds various school improvement projects. Last year we raised over $2000 through the Box Tops program alone! Please turn yours into your child’s teacher or Ms. Turnage in the front office.
We encourage you to download our mobile app from the App Store. We are currently only available on Apple products. This app will provide wonderful updates about what is going on at our school.
