This week in 1st and 3rd grade, students are becoming comic strip illustrators through the app, Pow! Strip Designer. Students are able to select a template, insert drawings or pictures, and add text balloons. They can also personalize their comic strip with stickers, photo filters, colors, or fonts.
Third Grade used this app to extend their reading story, What Do Illustrators Do? First, they each brainstormed their comic strip details, such as the setting, characters, and plot. Then they chose a template to begin their drawings. In each box, students drew a background, characters, and added text bubbles to help their story come to life. They enjoyed taking on the role of an Illustrator! I think we may have some future designers in this class!
First Grade students also used this app to help enrich their reading story, Jack and the Wolf. Students drew characters of their own to add into the story’s different settings. They were able to summarize different parts of the story through character text bubbles. This was a great activity to see the students take a story and make it their own.
Once each student finished their masterpiece, they saved it to their photo album and uploaded into Showbie to save and share!
