Lower School News for November 5-11, 2012

Note from the School Nurse

At 3:15 pm today the Heads of School and myself reviewed the absentee report and the sign out list to evaluate our illness trend and are reporting the following:

We are following all the suggested methods of reducing the spread of illness and have not had our absentee numbers climb to a percentage that qualifies closing school.  As we assess students who display symptoms of illness we will determine the measures we need to take and will follow advice from our state health agencies.  We are seeing our highest percentage of absentees in Intermediate and Upper School.  With our technology in these grades, it is advised that if your child is displaying any symptoms of illness, you keep them home until they feel better, due to the fact that they can complete their assignments via their technology.  Our numbers do not indicate that we should cancel classes for Pre-K through 12th grade at this time.  Please contact us via email with any questions.

CA is Electing the President

American pride is alive and well at CA!  3rd Grade Social Studies students are planning our very own 2012 CA Presidential Election!  Tuesday, November 6th, the student body at CA will vote for their choice for America’s new leader.  Lower School students will check-in with their voter registration cards, and then enter our very own voting booth where they will cast their vote by iPad.  Intermediate and Upper School students will be voting in their English classes using their iPads and MacBooks.  3rd grade will be creating an election learning wall outside of Mrs. Morgan’s room to educate students on the election and candidates.  All Lower School classes will be participating in patriotic-themed activities which will line the halls.  3rd-5th grade art students have also been working with Mrs. Lawless to create encouraging voting signs.  The school is a buzz with patriotic spirit!  Stop in Tuesday to be a part of the excitement!

Veteran’s Day Program

Our annual Veteran’s Day Program will be held Friday, November 9, at 1:30 in the school gym.  Lower School students are asked to wear nice jeans and a red, white or blue shirt.  This program is our opportunity to recognize those who serve and have served our country.  We invite all parents and friend of Clarksville Academy to come and see our students of all ages sing as we salute Veteran’s and those who presently serve our nation.

Book Fair

The All Star Book Fair will be on campus November 26-30!  This is a wonderful event on our campus every year and one you won’t want to miss!  There will be books for kids of all ages!  Don’t forget to stop by!

Science Fun

Our lower school science classes are participating in an experiment of the week with Mrs. Askew.  Throughout the semester she will video these and we will post them on our Clarksville Academy YouTube Channel.  We encourage you to go out and watch these videos weekly.

Leadership Project

The Leadership Seminar class is made up of Juniors and Seniors at CA. These students have come together to partner with the Firehouse Homeless Shelter to provide food, clothing, personal hygiene items, etc.  We ask that all CA families support this project and send any of the following items to school by November 16.

  • New/Used Backpacks
  • New/Used Coats
  • New Winter Hats/Gloves
  • New Men’s or Women’s Underwear
  • New women’s sports bras
  • Personal Hygiene Items (such as deodorant, soap, shampoo, toothbrushes/paste, women’s hygiene products)
  • Socks

All items should be brought no later than Nov 16.

Lower School Art

Like our Lower School Art Facebook Page! Mrs. Lawless is collecting bottle caps of all sizes and colors for an art project.  Please save your bottle caps and bring in a Ziploc bag to lower school art.  Towards the end of September, fourth graders are going to be designing and constructing scarecrows. We are in need of old Halloween costumes, old clothes, hats, gloves, etc. We will take anything that might make a scarecrow come to life. All donations will be appreciated! Send in with your child or leave at front desk with Mrs. Turnage for Mrs. Lawless.

Box Tops & Campbell’s Labels

This is a reminder that CA collects Campbell’s labels and Box Tops through our CAA.  The money raised from this project funds various school improvement projects.  Last year we raised over $1500 through the Box Tops program alone!  Please turn yours into your child’s teacher or Ms. Turnage in the front office.
