3rd Grade

This week in 3rd grade, we will be working on our Community Problem Solving Projects.  There will be a total of 10 groups, with 3-4 members per group.  Each group will have their own real-world community issue, in which they must work together to help improve.  Each group will develop a plan to educate the community about their issue.  They will then plan a mock-event to support improving their issue, and create an advertisement for it.  They will plan ways to use local media to share their event, and continue to educate and involve the community.  The groups will develop a poll question about their community problem, and will poll CA students showing their collected data on either a bar or pictograph.  Upon completion of these projects, all of the students’ hard work will be displayed outside of the 3rd grade classrooms.  This is a beginning CBL activity, as well as one that will require higher order thinking, group work skills, and creativity.  The 3rd graders are very excited to get started!  It’s wonderful knowing that our students are going to be prepared to make their community a better place!

4th Grade

Fourth graders took part in a hands-on density experiment during their last 4-H class.

CA - 4th-Grade - Experiment

Each fourth grader selected a President to research during the month of February. Zachary Austin enjoyed sharing his report using his iPad. A hard copy of everyone’s written report is on display in the Lower School hallway.

Absentee Reminder

A reminder to all parents, if your child is going to be absent or is absent due to illness, we ask that you notify the school. Thank you.

Please remember in the morning there is no entering campus from the main entrance on 2nd Street. All cars should enter on Anderson Drive or at the lower entrance on 2nd street. It is important to keep the traffic flow going in the right direction to avoid accidents. When visiting campus, we remind you that the row of parking directly in front of school and the first two rows near the Cougar Cruisers are reserved faculty/staff spaces. We ask all parents and guests to park on the hill to the right of the school. Thank you.

Upcoming Dates

Below are some dates to remember….

  • March 8th—Lower School Conference Day—No School Lower School Students
  • March 29th-April 5th—Spring Break (return to school on April 8th)

This week your children have been introduced to a new program at Clarksville Academy, the R.A.C.K. Club. The Random Acts of Cougar Kindness Club is an opportunity for your child to be “caught” doing random acts of kindness! Teachers and staff will be watching for examples of good citizenship and character that go above and beyond. Students could then be rewarded with a ticket to be placed in a jar in the classroom. Once a month these tickets will be collected and small rewards will be distributed. Also, group pictures will be taken and displayed on the R.A.C.K. Club board outside the lunchroom. We can’t wait to recognize our Cougars as proud members of the R.A.C.K. Club!

Science Fun

Our lower school science classes are participating in an experiment of the week with Mrs. Askew. Throughout the semester she will video these and we will post them on our Clarksville Academy YouTube Channel. We encourage you to go out and watch these videos weekly.

Lower School Art

Like our Lower School Art Facebook Page! Mrs. Lawless is collecting bottle caps of all sizes and colors for an art project. Please save your bottle caps and bring in a Ziploc bag to lower school art. Towards the end of September, fourth graders are going to be designing and constructing scarecrows. We are in need of old Halloween costumes, old clothes, hats, gloves, etc. We will take anything that might make a scarecrow come to life. All donations will be appreciated! Send in with your child or leave at front desk with Mrs. Turnage for Mrs. Lawless.

Box Tops & Campbell’s Labels

This is a reminder that CA collects Campbell’s labels and Box Tops through our CAA. The money raised from this project funds various school improvement projects. Last year we raised over $1500 through the Box Tops program alone! Please turn yours into your child’s teacher or Ms. Turnage in the front office.
