Clarksville Academy - Promoting Academic Excellence, Moral Integrity, Physical Growth, and Civic Responsibility

Josh Jerles: Alumni ’11

“In my thirteen years at Clarksville Academy, while playing two sports and being involved in student government amongst other things, I learned the skills necessary to overcome the challenges in college.”

The rest of the story:
josh-jerles-signing-rhodes-collegeI started CA in Kindergarten and spent thirteen years there. I couldn’t imagine going to school anywhere else. My dad, aunts, uncles and cousins had all attended CA as well. When the time came to choose a college, I felt a little overwhelmed. I had worked hard during my time at CA and had the grades to prove it. I was involved in so many activities that I had a great student resume (thanks to the help of Mrs. Walker, the school counselor). I had a passion and a love for sports that was nurtured my whole school career. My football coach, Todd Hood, really helped me to reach my full potential and pushed my football career in the right direction.

I started touring and applying to schools during my junior year. I had worked with Mrs. Walker starting in 9th grade on keeping my resume updated and taking some electives that might be helpful for college. I took all honors and AP courses at CA (all of the classes are that way) which was beneficial. After visiting Rhodes and talking to their football coach, I knew it was where I belonged. I have loved every minute of it. josh-jerles-with-parentsMy first few weeks were challenging, but that was due to getting used to moving away from home, attending practices, and learning my way around campus. I felt prepared for my classes and though they are challenging, CA gave me the foundation to be successful in them. Coach Hood’s rigorous practices prepared me for the challenge of collegiate sports and my involvement in sports, clubs, and high level academics prepared me for college. I am so glad that I was able to attend CA for my entire educational career. It truly prepared me for college and life.
