Clarksville Academy - Promoting Academic Excellence, Moral Integrity, Physical Growth, and Civic Responsibility

All School News for January 7-13, 2013

In the News

Clarksville Academy’s sixth grade teacher, Kimberly Goad, has been selected from a national field of educators to attend this year’s presidential inaugural conference in Washington DC. Her nomination was chosen by the National Young Scholars Program to act as a faculty advisor for middle school students traveling to this prestigious event.

After an intense four day training, she will lead a group of high achieving middle school scholars who have traveled to our nation’s capital for a unique and extraordinary opportunity to explore the presidency, the presidential campaign and take part in the excitement and celebration of America’s 57th Presidential Inauguration.

The Presidential Inaugural Conference is a nonpartisan educational event held in Washington, D.C. every four years for middle school and high school students in celebration and in recognition of the Inauguration of the President and Vice President of the United States.

She will leave for Washington D.C. on Saturday and will be blogging about her trip and posting it on the CA site.

7th & 8Th DC Trip Meeting Change

Due to multiple scheduling conflicts, the DC Trip Information-Parent Meeting, scheduled for Monday, will now be Thursday, January 10. There will be two meeting times offered on Thursday. The times are 12:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. Each session should last no longer than 45 minutes. It is our hope that the different meeting times will help to accommodate most schedules. If you are unable to attend either session, we will have a podcast of the meeting available at your viewing convenience. Also, if it helps, only one parent/guardian needs to attend.

The DC Trip is an amazing learning experience for our 7th and 8th graders. We look forward to meeting with you next Thursday to discuss the details and guidelines of this wonderful trip opportunity.

Physical Education

The Physical Education Department is excited to offer a new unit of study!  Students in grades 2-9 will participate in a Roller Skating unit beginning in February!  This unit will be fun for everyone (we might even include an 80s roller disco theme!) and will teach our students a sense of balance, coordination, and give them a great physical workout.  More information will be made available to your student in the coming weeks!

Box Tops & Campbell’s Labels

This is a reminder that CA collects Campbell’s labels and Box Tops through our CAA.  The money raised from this project funds various school improvement projects.  Last year we raised over $1500 through the Box Tops program alone!  Please turn yours into your child’s teacher or Ms. Turnage in the front office.

FCA would like to thank everyone who donated and those who participated in our spirit dress down day. The money raised was more than enough to fulfill all of our Christmas projects and it allowed us to add additional ones! We would also like to thank the lower school teachers and students for decorating the Christmas cards for the nursing home project, they were beautiful!  The following is a list of the gifts given this Christmas:

  • Smile Train: due to a matching gift, three children will be able to have cleft surgeries and a New Smile.
  • Gospel for Asia: BioSand water filter, pigs, chickens, rabbits and gospel tracts.
  • Nursing Homes: 376 beautifully decorated Christmas cards, 100 pounds of fruit, and 200 candy canes.
  • Angel Tree Family: Holiday dinners for three families.
  • Military Boxes:  Christmas Boxes to deployed FCA parents.
