Lower School News: May 1 – May 5, 2017

1st Grade

First Grade completed their Chapter 12 math study of two-dimensional shapes by creating our very own tree.

Science News

First grade classes investigated Solubility.  We experimented with different items to determine whether they would dissolve in water.  We determined that sand does not dissolve, salt does dissolve, and sugar free Kool-aide dissolves.  First graders voted unanimously to dispose of the sugar free Kool-aide by drinking it!

Second grade investigates the Properties of Matter.  We described matter using color, texture, size, shape, flexibility, and temperature.  We compared temperatures ranging from 40 Degrees to 105 Degrees.

Third graders discussed mass and matter.  They placed density cubes in order of least mass to most mass. We investigated the properties of conductors and insulators, comparing the time for ice to melt on different components and observed bar mass differences.

Box Tops

This is a reminder that CA collects Box Tops through our CAA. The money raised from this project funds various school improvement projects. Last year we raised over $2000 through the Box Tops program alone! Please turn yours into your child’s teacher or Ms. Turnage in the front office.
