2nd Grade

Second graders were treated to a wonderful science lesson taught by Dr. Chad Brooks.  Dr. Brooks began his presentation by breaking down the word microbiologist so students could discover the meaning.  Students learned about different types of germs and where they can be found.  They also found out how easily germs can be spread by using powder to replicate germs and shaking hands with each other.  Dr. Brooks brought his special light so students could see the “germs”.

Dr. Chad Brooks is a microbiologist at Austin Peay State University, and father of Zoe and Max Brooks.

Students in 2nd grade created mock oil spills as they investigated the effects on water habitats.  Using motor oil, we caused our “oil spills” then dipped a variety of feathers in the water.  Students quickly realized how difficult the cleanup of the bodies of water was, and how damaging the oil was to the bird feathers.

3rd Grade

Third grade students have been exploring and learning about food chains and food webs.  One way students were assessed was in their creation of an individual “Food Chains” project.  Students demonstrated their knowledge of the content, individual creativity, and artistic ability through their project and class oral presentation.  Students also built and acted out food webs as a class.

Box Tops & Campbell’s Labels

This is a reminder that CA collects Campbell’s labels and Box Tops through our CAA.  The money raised from this project funds various school improvement projects.  Last year we raised over $2000 through the Box Tops program alone!  Please turn yours into your child’s teacher or Ms. Turnage in the front office.
