Clarksville Academy - Promoting Academic Excellence, Moral Integrity, Physical Growth, and Civic Responsibility

Lower School News: February 12 – February 16, 2018

2nd Grade

In science, the students were excited to learn about dinosaurs and fossils. With a paleontologist notebook, the students explored the four types of fossils: imprints, molds, casts, and preserved parts. For each type of fossil, the students completed an activity to visualize how the fossils formed. For the imprint fossil, the student used their thumbprint as an example of the fossil.

3rd Grade

Third Grade Students have been learning about Rocks & Minerals.  They also had the privilege of having special speaker, Mr. Philip Thomas come in to share his expertise and previous experience of gold mining.  His presentation was informative, educational and interesting.  The students were very engaged!

Third graders observed samples of rocks and minerals, including samples of Fool’s Gold.  Using streak plates the students determined streak colors of a variety of samples. They completed their data chart noting physical properties.

In Math Lab, third graders used yarn and paint to demonstrate lines of symmetry. They dipped yarn in tempera paint and placed it on folded paper to make symmetrical designs on the construction paper.  They created unique designs during this lab time.
