MONDAY MESSENGER

Published at Clarksville Academy, 710 North Second, Clarksville, TN. 37040

Week of April 23, 2012

Clarksville Academy is a pre-kindergarten through grade twelve, college-preparatory school.

Our mission is to promote academic excellence, moral integrity, and physical and social growth.

Values: Scholarship-Honor-Character-Respect-Success

Clarksville Academy General News and Announcements

Attention Parents! CTP4 Test this Week

On Monday, April 23, 2012, we will begin the testing for the Educational Records Bureau’s Comprehensive Testing Program #4 (ERB CTP4) and this will last throughout the week. All students in grades 3 through 7 will participate in the testing. Each teacher has designated appropriate time periods on each day for test administration.

The CTP4 is the only standardized achievement test designed specifically for high achieving schools and schools wishing to set high standards. The CTP4 provides administrators and teachers with useful instructional information for students up to and including the highest achievement levels.

While we want our students to score well on the CTP4, we must also realized this is but one assessment tool and is used as such. Please be sure to impress upon your child that sufficient sleep and a nutritious breakfast will help in their performance. Please have your child at school on time during each of the testing days.

The results of the CTP4 assessment will be sent to the school in early summer and you will be given a copy during orientation. Thank you in advance for your help in making this year’s CTP4 assessment a success. If you have any questions, please contact Denise Walker at (931) 647-6311.

Important Dress Code Reminders

As weather continues to get warmer please remember to check the student handbook for appropriate wear. Our dress code is in effect for all grades Pre-K through 12. Please remember the following important dress code guidelines:

Key Club Corner

Key Club Convention Report:

From March 16-18th, 10 of Clarksville Academy’s Key Club members attended the annual K-T District Convention in Chattanooga. Our club joined nearly 50 clubs from Kentucky, Tennessee, and parts of Georgia and Virginia to celebrate this year’s service accomplishments.

Clarksville Academy received a lot of recognition, both for individuals and as a club. Lauren Maki was awarded one of the five Matching Scholarships, which totaled $1,000, for all of her hard-work and commitment as Key Club member. Bob Jaracz should also be recognized for his work on the Key Club video, which won 2nd place. As a club, Clarksville Academy received the following awards: Dues on Time Award, the Silver Ronald McDonald House award (for donating more than $500), and the Most Outstanding Club in the Division Award. The major awards were for 1st place in the Gold Division for Single Service (for our Operation Homefront effort which collected and donated $2,500 worth of gifts to military families in need), and 1st place in the Gold Division for Achievement.

While we were in Chattanooga, our own Xian Gao was elected Lieutenant Governor for our division, and she will be critical in acting as a liaison between the clubs in our division. Also, our Key Club members participated in a convention-wide service event which made grab-bags containing various snack items for the Ronald McDonald House. By the end of the service event, over 1,000 bags had been filled and they were prepared for delivery to the local Ronald McDonald House. Our Key Club members represented Clarksville Academy with pride and they were able to network with others to form connections that could make a more profound impact on our world.

Environmental Initiative in the CA Cafe

Our cafeteria has gone GREEN! We are using enviroware plates and utensils that are made from envirofoam, which is a line of environmentally friendly disposable products. These products are manufactured with Dispozo’s green2technology. Our plastic cups are eco-friendly and made from corn products! Monogram Sustain Cups are environmentally friendly and come from a renewable material that is harvested yearly.

Drop-off Reminder

Please remember during morning drop off in front of the main building, there is just one line. All cars should use the far right lane. Only drivers who are parking should enter the 2nd or 3rd lane. We ask that cars not dart around other drivers who may be slower to drop off. Please remember that as you enter the pick up line, your child should be ready to exit the car and not have to get into the back of the car or trunk.

Traveling On Campus – Watch out for our Cougars

Please take care to travel slowly around campus and do not speed in any pick-up line. The maximum speed on campus is 5 mph, especially during drop-off and pick-up. Our students are frequently walking around campus to go to class and play on the playgrounds. Please drive with extreme caution.
