Clarksville Academy in conjunction with Jenkins & Wynn of Clarksville have teamed up to bring “Ford Drive One For Your School” to campus on September 15. This is an exciting event that will allow CA to raise up to $6,000 for campus and academic improvements.

What can you as a parent/supporter of the Cougars do to help? It’s easy, sign up by clicking the banner to the right of the home page for a time to come and test ride in one of Ford’s latest and greatest vehicles. For each person who test rides in a vehicle CA will receive $20. We can receive up to $40 per test ride (2 people are allowed to test ride in one car at a time). All participants must be over 18 and only one adult per household (from the same mailing address) is allowed. We ask that you find a friend and sign up below to help us reach our goal of $6,000. Talk to your co-workers, friends, family, anyone who can come to campus and take a test ride. This will all take place in front of CA in the main parking lot. To make it even easier for you we will also have food available. This make it that much easier to come during lunch!

We truly value our parent and friend support and love Clarksville Academy. This is just another great way to show your support of our school. If you have any questions regarding the event, please feel free to contact Sally Allen at sal…@clarksvilleacademy.com or 647-6311.

The Sixth Grade held Student Council elections on Wednesday, August 25, 2010. The following students were elected to lead the Sixth Grade throughout the next year.

What is Music?

During the first week of music, all 2nd – 5th grade classes received a challenge to answer the question: How many words can you list that describe music? Within ten minutes, students were able to come up with more than thirty words. Amazingly, Mrs. Alsup’s fifth grade class came up with eighty-five musical words. Collectively, all eight classes listed over 150 music styles, terms, instruments, and composers.

What is music? The lower school students of Clarksville Academy know – and are learning more every day. Congratulations to the lower school music classes!

Key Club is now recruiting members for this year. New members are to pick up two teacher recommendation forms at the Key Club table at break. All members, new and old, must get their $25.00 dues in by September 24th. Our first all-member and interest meeting will be this Thursday, September 2, at 7:15 in the Gym.

Key Club is an international organization that promotes service. Sponsored by Kiwanis International, Key Club is strongly rooted with community and strongly encourages leadership, character building, caring, and inclusiveness. Clarksville Academy has been involved in Key Club for many years. Last year, with a total of about 100 members, or half the high school, Key Club was Clarksville Academy’s largest organization. We strongly encourage each and every member of the Clarksville Academy High School to join Key Club. Joining is simple: a $25 fee is due by September 24th and each member is required to do at least 20 hours of service a semester. Also, each new member must ask two teachers to fill out a recommendation form which can be found at the Key Club Table.

“I love Key Club because it gives everyone opportunities to hang out with other kids that they might not normally talk to WHILE saving the planet…one hour at a time. Key Club has always been important to me because we truly can make a difference, whether it’s sending needed supplies to third world countries or just making someone around you smile.”

“I love having tons of opportunities to help out around the community with my friends. Being in Key Club has made me branch out of my comfort zone and see the world from a different view point.”

“I love Key Club because it is my chance to give back to my school, family, and community.”

Upcoming Events-

To learn about upcoming service opportunities, see the Key Club table at break every day.

Kyra Bishop, a 2010 graduate of CA was featured in The Leaf Chronicle for her beautiful set designs for the Roxy Regional Theatre. Click here to read more.

http://www.theleafchronicle.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=20108220314

CA students surpass both the state and national average on the ACT college preparatory exam. The article from the August 25, 2010’s Leaf Chronicle is below.

Clarksville Academy student’s ACT school average has surpassed the 2009-2010 state and national average. CA students averaged a 23.9 composite ACT score while the state average was a 19.6 and the national average was 21.0. The ACT is a national college admissions examination used to evaluate the achievement of high school students in the four core areas of English, reading, math and science. The test is considered a level examination for students across the nation and the scores are utilized by American colleges and universities as one of the determining factors for college acceptance.

Clarksville Academy uses these results in accordance with the school’s mission statement to promote academic excellence. To continually improve student achievement, Clarksville Academy places emphasis on areas including curriculum alignment, reading comprehension and higher order skills. As shown in this year’s results, students at Clarksville Academy scored 4.5 points higher on average on their cumulative scores compared to the State scores. CA students also improved their scores in each of the four subject areas for an average improvement of 2.5 points. The state scores dropped a full point, making Tennessee rank fourth from the bottom in the nation. CA students’ scores were right up there with the nation’s leader Massachusetts who averaged a 24 on the national test.

These improved scores are a result of the cooperative efforts of students and instructors. Special attention is given to activities that promote higher order thinking and advanced reading comprehension. Students in the CA Class of 2010 averaged an ACT composite score of 23.9, with the top ten percent of the class averaging 33.75 and the top 25 percent averaging 31.3.

Clarksville Academy is a PreK -12 private school celebrating its 40th year in Clarksville.

The Cougars will take on Forrest tomorrow night in the season opener. We ask that all CA families come out and show support for our team during this exciting night. This will be the first regular season game for the Cougars under the direction of Todd Hood.

Families are invited to set up tents and tailgate prior to the game starting as early at 5:30. A short reception will be held for past Cougar football player, cheerleaders, and dance team members beginning at 7.

For those unable to make it to the field, listen live on WJZM 1400. Follow the link on our website www.clarksvilleacademy.com/football. We also encourage to visit our new football website and mark it as a favorite.

There will be some notable changes at the Sports Complex upon your arrival Friday. Freshly painted fields, updates to the field house, concessions areas and stands have all taken place thanks to the hard work of parents. Dr. Scott Blackman has also graciously donated a brand new sound system for the football game and it will have it’s inaugural use Friday night.

We hope to see you tomorrow night! Go Cougars!
